Protect Public School Funding

The Texas Legislature has proposed legislation that would send public tax money to unaccountable private school systems.

The future of our economy depends on investment in public education today. We ask that you join us and let lawmakers know how important it is to our future economy and to keep public dollars in public schools.

Dear [Lawmaker],

I am writing to you today to oppose Education Savings Account vouchers and ask you to focus solely on efforts that directly support public schools. Without significant changes resulting in the removal of HB 1’s voucher proposal, I cannot support this legislation. I join the 45 chambers of commerce from the state who are a part of the Grow Texas Talent Initiative that are growing concerned about the quality of our future workforce supply. Economic success for our state relies on the health of our public education system, which requires full funding and retention of taxpayer dollars in our schools. One of the greatest needs in Texas is a well-trained and highly skilled workforce both now and in the future. I want Texas to invest and enrich the excellent offerings existing in our local schools to train the next generations of doctors, engineers, chefs, and welders. Schools are the heart of our communities, and our school systems and the men and women who spend their careers educating the next generation deserve support from our elected leaders in Austin. I believe there is no such thing as a small voucher program. If allowed, this program will grow and drain valuable resources from our public schools.
